Where it bends: nowhere — this one is pure arithmetic. The only thing it can't convert is how the pace feels at kilometre 38.
Under the hood
This one is arithmetic, and that is the whole story. A pace is seconds divided by distance, so converting between units is multiplying and dividing — there is no model underneath, nothing fitted to data, and nothing that can quietly stop being true.
km/h = 3600 ÷ seconds per km
finishing time = seconds per km × distance in km
The numbers that go in
| Number | What it is | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 1.609344 | kilometres in a mile | A definition, agreed internationally in 1959. Exact, not measured. |
| 21.0975 km | half marathon | Definition — half of the marathon distance. |
| 42.195 km | marathon | Definition, fixed by World Athletics. |
That is every number in this tool. Nothing here is an estimate, so there is nothing to be sceptical about — which makes this the only one of our six calculators where the honest answer to "how sure are you?" is: completely.
